Our Journey to Genesis Hyperbarics

My husband, Mark, and I have been married forty-four years. We have two boys, Chris and Brian. In 2016, we adopted Sierra and Jordan which blessed us with four children. Chris has two boys, Nicholas and Matthew. Brian and his wife , Tiffani, have two boys, Lincoln and Hudson. We are proud grandparents of four grandsons.

Our family tragedy began In February 2017, Mark was in our front yard with Nicholas and Jordan. A young man was working on his car, which was a Mercury Grand Marquis. All of a sudden the car started and kicked into reverse. The owner of the car managed to grab the steering wheel which guided the car into our front yard…. The driverless car, accelerated in reverse, went into the yard where Jordan and Nicholas were playing. Mark ran to get to Nicholas and Jordan, but Nicholas was struck by the rear bumper of the car. Mark was ran over trying to save Nicholas and Jordan. He was rushed to Atrium Medical Center and then careflighted to Miami Valley Hospital. Nicholas was careflighted to Dayton Children's Hospital. Jordan, thankfully, was not injured.

Mark survived after several surgeries, but Nicholas didn't. Our sweet baby Nicholas passed away at the age of three years old. Nicholas is a HERO, he was an organ donor and saved three lives. Mark still suffers with some pain and walks differently; he walks closer to God.

In August 2017, Nicholas' dad, Chris, had a massive heart attack. Chris had horrible nervous tremors after Nicholas' accident and his doctor put him on Clonazepam (Klonopin). He took too many which caused a massive heart attack. He was diagnosed with an Anoxic Brain Injury. The doctors wanted us to let him go, but we prayed about it and we just couldn't give up.

After two weeks, Chris was transferred to Sycamore Life Care and then on to Sycamore Glenn Nursing Home. In November 2017, we brought Chris home to take care of him. He has lived with us since.

While at Sycamore Life Care, we noticed they had Hyperbaric Oxygen Chambers. We were told these chambers were used for Wound Healing. The staff said the hospital could lose their license to use the chambers for a patient with an Anoxic Brain Injury. They totally understood why we asked. The brain is an organ and the organ was damaged and needed healing. We then found a facility in West Chester and transported Chris there for a series of Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatments (HBOT) under the care of Scott Fuhr, CHT.

Scott Fuhr shared our same concerns and believed that Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy could be used to treat so many more people with a variety of medical conditions. We joined together and opened Genesis Hyperbarics Health & Wellness Center at Atrium Medical Center Campus.

We have been blessed to meet, treat and pray for so many patients suffering with so many different conditions. Our goal is to continue as disciples of Jesus Christ and help as many people as we can.

Chris has continued receiving Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy with other doctor recommended therapies. His neurologist says he's making connections, but needs to make more and more. Chris is very alert and focused. We believe he understands everything going on around him. Chris was in a coma after the heart attack, but now he is in a semi-conscious state. God answers prayers!
